Wow! the Wedding Industry has Changed - Part I
I have always been a social person. I like to join groups and get to know people. over the past 10+ years I have lost count how many people I have met in person from the internet. It's a great place. BUT... Back in the early 2000's it was really difficult for bridal industry vendors to socialize with any of the brides. It was nearly impossible. We were kept away and shunned by the various websites for fear that we would spam the boards, I'm assuming. While I know that this is a problem with some vendors... they just go over board with the junk they spew - it was detrimental to the great many bridal professionals who were level headed decent people to socialize with.
Some how the wedding industry as a whole was afraid to let the vendors mingle with the brides... I guess the fear was that the brides would be preyed upon by unscrupulous vendors. Not sure really. But anyway - through out the years I have seen so much change in terms of the wedding industry that I can say it's not the same as it was just 9 years ago! (it's a horse of a different color) ha ha ha... litterally. Besides the social media explosion that started with blogs and facebook... and has colminated in Twitterized everything - the wedding industry has gone into full blown color. This is a wonderful thing as far as I'm concerned!
So... what are your thoughts on this? I'd love to read your comments so feel free to speak up :)

I believe getting full color and almost touching the items you would select for your wedding is great. However some of it has been so commercialized that it has also lost the true reason for marriage and make it seem like it's all about a big party instead of a celebration of love b/w two people.
you said it !!! I totally agree. things have change a lot here in france too, but I feel like there is still a lot to do ...
I got married 2 years ago , 10 years afeter mys sister and the industry was totally, I mean TOTALLY different ...
Anti Princess Bride ~*~*~ I agree - just about everything in this world is over commercialized. it is a sad thing. But As far as the social media part of it - it does let the brides an vendors be real... to stop hiding or in many cases stop being forced to stay away from brides. With the new social media explosion the vendors and brides are all seeing that we are not enemy's we are all in this together and some of us are actually really nice people :)
Sabine, La Marquise Des Anges ~*~* (boy that's a mouthfull (or for typing a finger full) LOL
Yes the change in just the last 5 YEARS is pretty staggering - but 10 years it's just a completely different place. That's one good thing about creating custom orders... I don't get left behind - I get to go for the ride and create ever changing things as the tastes and industry standards change :)
Great post.
Social media is definately having a huge impact on the wedding business. As a destination wedding planner one of the greatest things has been having access to talented people I would otherwise not have had the oppurtuntiy to find.. is allowing me to bring my clients, many new ideas and products from talented people.
Must admit (embarassed to do so..) really had no idea that custom garter existed like the ones that you make.. so social media is a great thing for all in the wedding industry allowing us to experience things we would otherwise have not been exposed to.
I love your work and think your garters, pillows etc. they are an afforbable way to really add some pizzaz to your wedding day.
Janice ~*~* Hey there :) Glad to see your view. I too have found out about so many talented people through social media. It has been a great networking tool as well as lots of fun to be social. Being that I work alone - I don't have much social interaction here in my studio. So This social media is two fold for me. it's a great business tool and a great social outlet. :)
and ... No need to be embarassed for not knowing... The garter is only a small part of any wedding planning and some brides don't even like to do it so it's not even part of their wedding at all.
So it doesn't surprise me that you never heard custom garters LOL - but I'm glad you've heard of them now. ;)
