So many women have been affected by this disease. One of the lovely ladies at my church has been undergoing treatments for nearly a year now. It's a very emotional process. When one finds a lump it is the fear of the unknown. Could it be cancer? Hopefully it's not! Then comes the diagnosis. Yes it is cancer... The fear of how things will turn out come to the forefront of your mind. Will I die? Will I lose my breast? How can I handle this? Breast Cancer Awareness
As you probably know by now - October is the national breast cancer awareness month.
After the initial shock of finding out has set in it still doesn't get any easier. Once you find out the path you will take to be treated the work begins. For my friend at church, She had lots of tests to undergo. Then she had to do the chemotherapy. This was hard on her towards the end. Each treatment became more and more toxic to her system. She had to start wearing a wig, so it was a reminder to her and all around her of the situation she was living through. After many treatments over months, she was ready for surgery. For her things were very positive. Everything shrunk so much it was not noticeable any longer, She only had to have a small area operated on and her breasts are still intact. But for many ladies they must remove the entire breast. This can be devastating to go through and subsequently live with.
Since the surgery went well, the last step to the process of my friends treatment is to get radiation treatment. Once she has finished that round of treatment she will be able to rest and go in for check-up periodically. The looming thought of it returning can be ever present for a long time afterward. Each time there is a new appointment the question will be there... digging at you... did it return?
Working through and surviving breast cancer is an emotional trial. It's wonderful to know that there is so much support out there for those women who are in need of it. I've have raised funds for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in the past. Also I have shown my support for this cause by offering free pink ribbon garters at all times. It's not just for the month of October, but for any time. I know that the 3 day walk, Avon walk and other breast cancer fundraising walks happen at various times of the year. Not all on one day or month. So I wanted to bring it to your attention that I have the free pink ribbon breast cancer awareness garters available for FREE to anyone who would want one. They can be used by you in the actual walks - worn on your leg or arm in support of the cause. Or it can be hung from your rear view mirror as a symbol that you support the cause. What ever you want to used it for - it's yours. I give away 5 free pink ribbon garters per month. Tell your friends about it and come on by to claim yours.
You can easily join the club to claim the free garter. Club is totally free to join and easy - If you have a Ning ID you're already mostly there. if not - it's a snap to create it.
